Mallard v Pheasant Fight !

Sat and watched this Female Mallard trying to see of the Pheasant which she obviously saw as a threat to her Ducklings, she had already chased him away once, she took her brood off into the woods and a couple of hours later returned where Mr Pheasant was happily scratching in the mud, the ducklings charged in around the Pheasant, not his fault this time, anyway Mum blazed in ! this is a little of what happened.

I know the photos are poor quality but it was cloudy and in the woods so could not get a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the action.

"Round One! Fight!"

I'd bet on the mallard by default... pheasants are still No. 1 on my daft bird list, being a driver on uk roads. ;)

It was pretty amazing to watch, and it was quite vicious.

The Pheasant ran away the first time but stood his ground the second round which resulted in this fight, he did clear off afterwards though.

We have a pheasant nesting where I work. I have no idea why it picked there, as it gets no peace as people are constantly walking past! Strange bird.:D

They are daft aren't they :) i was surprised last week as i was walking up a track to the woods and saw a Male Pheasant sitting a couple of feet away from the wheel ruts in the track, as we got closer he ran off, he had been sitting on an egg ! seriously, i guess the female had laid it there and he decided to look after it.
