Hummingbird Hawk Moth (Macroglossum stellatarum).
This is the first one i have seen this year, a fair bit smaller than last years visitor, but at least more obliging to pose. Unusual visitor to the UK, normally found in the Mediterranean and Asia, amazing little things, very fast and quite difficult to shoot, they can been seen during the day. Wow, i was surprised when i logged on to find this image had been given a DD! Big Big Thanks to Both ^shell4art who suggested it, and to ^KevLewis for featuring it ! You really have made My day More info on the image as many have asked for details... Shot with a Canon EF 100 F2.8 USM Macro mounted on a 30D Body. Hand Held. Shutter Speed = 1/1000 Aperture Value = 10.0 Exposure Compensation = -2/3 ISO Speed = 400 Daily DeviationGiven 2007-07-19Hummingbird Hawk Moth 2 by *cycoze A stunning example of the Hummingbird Hawkmoth. A rarity in the UK but becoming more common in recent years. Perfect focus and set against a good background. The pollen is a nice bonus. (Suggested by `shell4art and Featured by `KevLewis) |
