Ferruginous Hawk (Buteo regalis) male.

Unusual bird, they are not a proper Hawk, actually a Buzzard, sometimes mistaken/thought to be an Eagle, the Latin name means the Royal Bird, the word Ferruginous comes from Latin and pertains to rust in this case the colour of the bird.

Falconers bird.

Charlie has a sad tale, he was unfortunately given to someone with no experience of birds, subsequently stuffed into a cage made of chicken wire which was no more than two feet across! a bird should be able to stretch it's wings out unhindered minimum, so five foot minimum would be more like it.

Due to the appalling conditions he was kept in Charlie suffered awful damage to his wing-tip, needless to say all of the feathers were damaged, unfortunately he ended up with a dry gangrene in the wing-tip.

Charlie thankfully ended up being rescued and given to a Falconer who overtime has rid the bird of any disease, Charlie now looks so much better, the damage to the wing will mean he cannot fly, but at least he has a good home and regularly goes to displays where he is much admired.

What a regal visage  Cy, maybe sometime you could mention the name of the group that rescues these raptors, or a link, just in case someone wants to donate? :aww:

If you must drink and draw, please do so responsibly.

Aw, poor Charlie. :( At least he had the chance to fly before that happened. Do you know how old he is?

As for the picture, beautiful shot. :D Almost looks like he's smiling.

I am a proud soldier in the MCRmy
I took their bullets and gave them my love
I cried out for sweet revenge
I marched faithfully in the black parade

I AM NOT afraid to keep on living
and THEY WILL NEVER take me alive
